On March 2nd, Kenji Hakuta attended and presented at the Education Success Project Colloquium at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. Professor Hakuta spoke about the shift in teaching culture necessitated by the Common Core State Standards--a move toward more and more complex student language use. The meeting was attended by representatives from a wide range of schools, districts, nonprofit organizations, and universities. It was sponsored by California's Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tom Torlakson, and by Dr. Shane Martin, Dean of Loyola Marymount's School of Education. A video of the colloquium is available here.
