State Board of Education members will learn about, identify and discuss issues and challenges states have as they adopt, implement and/or align policies to be effective in their decision-making about the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Sessions will highlight processes, policies, and practices related to the NGSS such as professional learning systems, assessment, and aligning educational policies. The conference will provide presentations from experts, resources and facilitate working group sessions to support state planning.
Co-chair of Understanding Language and Deputy Superintendent of Oakland Unified School District will lead a session on language attainment and NGSS. She will discuss how NGSS builds 21st century skills and language competencies for all learners, with a focus on English Language Learners.
